Money is a rather interesting concept in society. It gets blamed for a lot of problems that we have. Some people say that money corrupts, however that is not the case. Money merely makes you more of what you are. If you are generous, you’ll be very generous. If you’re greedy, you’ll want even more. If you can’t manage money, it will slip away from you. Money is not inherently good or evil, it’s lacking in morals in either direction. It’s a tool, just like a hammer or a gun. You can use it for good and evil. One very interesting concept about money is how it can effect your health.

Money problems are a major source of stress, in fact money fights and money problems are the number one cause of divorce in North America today! We have to remember that having money or not having money does not make us good or bad people, instead we are good and bad people based on our acts. God will take good care of us if we trust Him to do so. Money shouldn’t be a big stressor, but it is for a good number of people. When you become very stressed, your body reacts very negatively. Some people can’t help but sleep all the time, others succumb to addictions, such as caffeine, over eating and alcohol. Some people are full of anxiety because of their money problems. It’s not a good effect.

Beyond stressing us when we have problems with money, it can also effect our health in other ways. If you don’t take a close look at your money and look at where it goes every week, chances are you are going to be buying a lot of sodas, coffees, and other snacks at work which are going to just put all sorts of calories into you. If you don’t do a budget, often times people go out to eat far too much without even realizing it! All of the fast food and random snacks throughout the day add up to be a lot of calories throughout the day that you don’t really need.

If you do a monthly budget and decide how often you are going to eat, how much you are going to spend on groceries and snacks you will find your self eating a lot healthier. You’ll realize that all of the prepackaged stuff is more expensive and not nearly as healthy as simple fruits and healthy snacks! It’s a strange correlation, but it actually does happen. My caloric intake has dropped dramatically since I realized what I was spending on junk food and going out to eat every week!

If you really take good care of your finance and get on top of things, you will eventually realize that you can apply what you’ve learned about finances to other areas of your life. If we can get on top of our money, we will realize that we can do the same with other areas of our life, such as our family, our walk with God, and our physical health. It works!
