Over the summer I worked at the county courthouse doing computer support. One of the other computer support specialist was a bit overweight, and one day he went off to the doctor’s office for a physical. The doctor told him that if he would not take better care of himself, he WOULD have a heart attack. The following day, my coworker began eating healthy, and went to the recreation center twice a day, every day to exercise. I went back to college for a semester and came back to work at the courthouse over Christmas break. I could hardly recognize my coworker when I saw him again. He lost 35 pounds in a matter of four months! How did he do this? He had focused intensity. There was no some revolutionary weight-loss plan he just busted it. Lots of hard work and eating right took care of him. We can all learn a lesson from this story. We need focused intensity in order to be successful, especially with our money.

Most people view their finances as a chore. Some of them write a monthly budget, but don’t enjoy doing so. Most people lack financial goals. Some of those who do have financial goals have no plans to get there. Most people just go to their job, pay what they can on their bills and think nothing of it. They live paycheck to paycheck, and will never really get anywhere financially. Before they realize it they will be fifty years old and have nothing to show for the last thirty years of hard work they put in. Don’t let this happen to you.

We need focused intensity in our finances in order to be successful! What does this mean in the financial world? This means that we have to write a budget every month on paper and on purpose. This means that we have to figure out what our financial goals are going to be, and how we are going to achieve those goals. After we have goals and a plan to meet them, we have to find ways to achieve those goals early! We have to take an active interest in our money, and try to learn more about the subject on a regular basis. We have to start saving a lot of money and paying off debt with massive principal payments.

If you lack focused intensity, you will be just another person living paycheck to paycheck and have nothing to show for yourself after years of hard work. If you are willing to do what it takes and just bust it, you too will have something to show for it. Please, for the sake of your children and your retirement, don’t just let your money slip on by. Make something happen with it!
