How to Cram Everything into Your Schedule And Have Time Left Over!
We’re all incredibly busy, and it seems like that there’s never enough time for everything. As time goes on, it doesn’t slow down, we just keep getting a little bit busier each year, and it seems like there’s nothing we can do to make ourselves less busy! With work, family, taking care of the household, and societal organizations that we’re a part of, who has time for anything else?
Last semester in college, I was taking 16 credit hours, working 11 hours a week doing computer support for the university, running the campus newspaper, tutoring on a part-time basis, doing freelance writing and blogging, doing web development for a small business in town, an active member in the university’s computer club, a participant in the honors program, conducted student research, worked at several forensics tournaments, went to church every Sunday, participated in a bible study, and even with all of that, I managed to get engaged during the process! (We’re getting married in August!)
It might not always be the easiest thing to do, but effective time management is absolutely critical so that you can get everything you need to done, and have plenty of time left over to spend with your family. A lot of people without money think they don’t have time for a part-time job because they just don’t think they have the time. Because they are not making good use of time management, they are doomed to financial mediocrity. We need to have good time management skills and be able to stay on top of everything, otherwise we’ll get so behind on everything that it’ll snowball into a big mess. Here’s how to stay on top of everything.
Consider your free time. What do you do with it? If you’re like most Americans, you’re playing on the computer or watching television. We need to us this time wisely. Next Sunday, Make a list of everything you need to do outside of work for the week. This can include household chores, bills that need to be paid, paperwork that needs to get done, organizations you have to do something for, homework, and the like. Now that you have your list, prioritize them in order of most important to least important. On Monday start with the most important after work, and move your way down the list. Do a few different tasks each day, so that all of your tasks are done by the end of the week.
Just systematically work through your list until everything’s done. Don’t worry about all the stuff you have to do and procrastinate, that will only just cause your work to be not done for even longer! Don’t worry, just get to it! There’s never going to be more than 24 hours in a day, and we just need to make the best possible use of the existing time that we have. That’s all there is to it, nothing more, and nothing less.
