Seven Ways to Spend Less Money on Movies
Everyone enjoys taking a few hours, going down to the local movie theater getting some popcorn, kicking back and watching one of the latest Hollywood Blockbusters, but it can get rather expensive. The same goes if you want to go out and buy a new DVD, sure it’s enjoyable, but at $15-$20 a pop for a new DVD or an $8 movie ticket, there has to be a better way. Here are some great ways that you can save money on your movie viewing habit.
Buy Movies on the Amazon Marketplace – Instead of going down to Wal-Mart or another big box store to buy a DVD, head on over to Amazon.com first and make sure one of the retailers on the Amazon Marketplace doesn’t have it for cheaper. There’s so much competition between retailers on Amazon that usually you can get a lot of 1-2 year old movies for just a few dollars plus about $3.00 shipping. You can get quite a steal a lot of movies.
Wait – You don’t have to see a brand new movie when it comes out in theater or on DVD for the first time, the longer the movie has been out, the less you will have to pay to see/buy it. After a movie has been out for a while, you can see it at a cheaper theater, or get it on DVD for less.
The Library – We all know that the library has free books that you can borrow, but you can also borrow movies from there too! It doesn’t have as great of a selection as the local Blockbuster or Movie Guy, but the price is right—free!
Sneak in the Snacks – Instead of paying $5.00 for a pop and popcorn at the movie theater, bring in a bottle of pop under your coat and a bag of chips. Many movie theater owners would frown upon this practice, but considering the high cost of the ticket and snacks, I won’t be shedding any tears.
Borrow and Swap – Most families have a movie collection of about 10 to 25 movies, consider swapping your movie collection with another family’s for a month or two so that you can have a whole new set of movies to watch. You can always just borrow them too if they don’t mind
Watch in the Afternoon – Usually you can watch a movie on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for about half the normal cost at matinee prices. If you must see the newest release, then is the time to do it.
The Cheap Theater – If you absolutely have to go out and have a movie theater experience, considering to going to one of the discount theaters. There’s one in a neighboring city which has prices of only $3.00 for a movie and $1.50 for pop and popcorn, which is awesome. The movies played aren’t first run, but at that price, who cares?
