Great Ways for Teens to Make Money
Perhaps you want to get your first car or maybe save up for your college education. You might just want to have some more money in your savings account, or have some more cash to impress your special someone. Don’t worry, just because you’re not a full adult doesn’t mean you can’t make some pretty decent money. Here are 13 great ways for teenagers to make some decent money.
1. Lawn Services – This is a lot of hard work, I admit, but it can be the single most profitable way for young people to easily make money. If you can push a mower, and do a little bit of marketing, you can have a great lawn care business. All you have to do is put out flyers, give a good price, show up on time, and do a good job, and you’ll have more business than you know what to do with.
2. Tutoring – If you’re academically inclined, chances are you could do very well being a tutor. There are always younger students who need additional help in your area, and quite often schools will hire smarter students to tutor other students. If this is you, go for it! Some teens make all the way up to $20.00 an hour doing this.
3. Work For Your Parents – If mom or dad happen to own a small business, there’s a pretty good chance they’ll be willing to hire you. They can afford to pay you a lot less than what they would have to pay for an adult employee, but to you it’s still really good money.
4. Sell Stuff – By the time you’ve become a teenager, chances are you’ve built up quite a collection of stuff. Maybe old toys that you don’t use anymore, old clothes, or old video games that you no longer play. Consider selling them when your family has their next garage sale. If your parents will let you use their account, you could also put that stuff on eBay.
5. Pet Sitting – Adults love their pets, but they hate to take care of them. If a neighbor is going on vacation, offer to take care of their pet for a nominal fee. You could also do regular dog walking services, since most adults are just too tired and don’t have the energy to give their dogs a needed walk at the end of the day.
6. Lifegaurding – If you like swimming, this is a great option for you. You get to sit on a chair and yell at bratty children all day. You can get a nice tan, and be paid quite well to do this. Lifegaurds can be paid all the way up to $10.00 an hour, which is a great wage for teenagers.
7. Web Design & Computer Help – If you really have strong computer skills, and I mean really strong computer skills, you could fix people’s computers when they have problems for a nominal fee. A lot of adults have the tendency to think that most teenagers who think they know what they are doing with computers don’t. So you have to have amazingly good computer skills in order to do these things.
8. Work at a Camp – If you start looking early enough, you can usually get a pretty decent job at a summer camp. You can do all sorts of different jobs, so chances are it won’t get boring. You’ll be there most of the summer, so you’ll get a lot of work in.
9. Use the Internet – There are a lot of different ways to make money using the web, and nobody really cares what age you are for the most part. You could write a blog, make a website, come up with a new product, sell existing products. If you can do the research and put in the work ,chances are there’s a good way for you to make money online. Be aware that there are a lot of scams and rip-off, so look with an eye of discernment.
10. Get a Services Job – In most states you can begin working at a service or retail job at age 16. Some states you can get a job as low as the age of 14. Usually you’ll be able to get some sort of a job at a fast food restaurant or in a retail store. It might not be glamorous, but it can sure pay well.
11. Help the Elderly – Chances are there’s some older couples in town that just can’t do all of the things that they used to. You could help them clean around the house, do some yard work, make meals for them, run errands, pickup groceries, and the like. If you offer a reasonable rate, chances are there’s work to be had.
12. Deliver Newspapers – If you don’t mind getting up early, get a newspaper route. You’re doing it before you go to school, so it’s not like you’re missing out on any of your time and you can easily make $100 or $200 a week delivering papers, so it’s a pretty decent job.
13. Be a Caddy – This is one of the best jobs that teenagers can get. You’ll earn a lot of money, learn more about golf, and most importantly, you’ll meet a lot of important people in the business world. It might not be important to know them now, but ten years down the line, those connections will be worth more than a bar of gold.
There are a lot of different ways that teenagers can make money. One way is not necessarily any better than the other, you just need to find a job that matches your skills, your interests, and your personality. There are two very important things that will put you ahead of 95% of your coworkers as a teenager. First, show up on time, and always show up on time. Second, do the best job you possibly can. If you can do these two things, you’ll never lose your job.
