I've got about 30 years until retirement. If the Dow drops 500 points, what does that mean? Time to buy! If the Dow goes up 500 points, what does that mean? Time to buy!

It's "time in the market" that matters, not "timing of the market".

Say you get out and then the market turns up suddenly. What do you do then? Buy in at higher prices, or wait for a drop that might never come again?

I think trying to time the market is a dangerous game. You will do much better just to leave your long-term money alone and ride out any recession that might come along.

JLP
AllFinancialMatters

How will buying a cd or investing
in a money market account guarantee
anything about where you'll be
relative to inflation? better to
stay at least partly in the market,
especially now, after a sharp
decline. Diversify, diversify, unless
you can see the future.....
