It's to never use one. There is absolutely zero <b>need</b> for a credit card today. For instance I do quite a bit of traveling for work and no longer use a credit card. I use a debit card on a separate checking account for everything including renting cars. At this point I think the only major car rental outfit that doesn't accept debit cards for rentals (they all accept them for final payment) is Hertz.
