I'm not old enough to drink yet (T-minus 6 months!), but I know exactly what I would do.

I would go to the bar with my friends, but I wouldn't order anything, or maybe I'd just get water. It would take my friends about two seconds to notice this, and then they'd start asking. I'd plainly and simply explain that I can't really afford to spend my money on drinking right now, and I came along just to spend time with my friends.

Knowing my friends, at least three of them would jump in and start buying drinks for me... whether or not I really wanted them! But the point is simply to be honest, and let your friends decide if they feel generous or not.

Haha, while you're bumming drinks off friends and skipping out on buying rounds, you should also remember to tip as little as possible and visit the bathroom when the check comes.

I'd add to the comment on rounds. In the UK, buying rounds of drinks is a major part of the drinking culture, and its not generally possible or practical to avoid it in many circumstances.

Though there is some sound advice in your post, some of the seem as if you are taking advantage of your friends. More often than not, if you are always suggesting drinks and never buying one for anyone else you will most likely not be asked back as often.
So far as not buying rounds, that is your prerogative but if you are partaking in the rounds purchased by others it is VERY poor from to not follow suit.
My third point is drink specials it never hurts to ask for them and if you plan on staying at the bar for several hours you can come out saving quite a bit.
