During any given weekday, most of us will probably consume about half of the calories we eat in a day at work. Between lunch and all the snacks that we consume throughout the day, we’re eating quite a bit of food. It’s very tempting and easy to go out to eat during the day, but that’s also a very expensive proposition. Fortunately you can create some delicious entrees to bring to work that will cost much less than a trip to McDonalds. Here are some great eats that you can bring to work for lunch.

Burritos – Burritos are really easy to make and very inexpensive. I suggest throwing rice, beans, and salsa into a wrap or tortilla. It’s a great filler for under $1.00. If you want to get a little bit fancier, feel free to throw in any vegetables, meats, and cheeses you like. The beauty of the burrito is that you can throw just about anything into them, even another burrito!

Pasta – On a Sunday afternoon, take an hour or two to make some delicious pasta. Make a nice big batch of it and bring it with you to work all week. Be sure to get whole wheat, it’s much healthier to white pasta. Throw in some chicken and some fettuccine, and any seasoning that you’d like, and you’ll have an excellent pasta to feed yourself all week.

Peanut Butter and Jelly – This is a really simple sandwich, we’ve all eaten more than or fair share at school in our childhood, and every once and a while, it’s nice to have one again. This isn’t the healthiest food in the world, so consider bringing some baby carrots or an apple to eat along with it.

Banquet Dinners & Pot Pies – This is an excellent solution for lazy people, such as my self. You can buy banquet dinners for 98 cents from just about any grocery store, and pot pies for around 50 cents. They’re plenty of filling, and all you have to do is throw them in the microwave for a few minutes, and they’re ready to eat. It’s not the best food in the world, but it’s very inexpensive and doesn’t take long to make.

Pizza – Go out and find your favorite frozen pizza, or make one from scratch. Cook it up on Sunday afternoon, and feast on re-heated pizza all week long. Eventually you’ll get sick of it, but by then you’ll run out of pizza, and be bringing something else to lunch with you.

BLT – Everyone loves a classic bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. They’re very inexpensive and easy to make and taste delicious too. Make a few at a time and bring them to work when you please. They aren’t messy at all, and are a nice change from some of the other meals that you bring to work.
