By the way, because of things, we have resorted to eating a free meal on Tuesdays. It helps. But that's all that's available here.

A month? I was lookin' at spending for 3 days. I cry when I go grocery shopping.
I'm a cook, so it's really hard to come up with meals. It kills me to cook a full healthy meal 3 times a day, when I know I have to come home and cook a meal
knowing we're living on barely the minimal, including milk, eggs and bread. I used to do pretty well with the budget, but the way things are nowadays, and my health issues, we're struggling bad!!!!! I'd go fishing, but I can't afford the license.

For about $12. you can buy a bag of powdered milk which will last at least a month. (longer if you change the ratio). With the other 6 bucks you can get a can of powdered meal replacements to mix with milk. At least you would be getting your nutrients. Other than that, I can see no way $20 buck would work. I think I could live on that for ONE month, but I couldn't see doing it for much longer. With the other $2 bucks you could treat yourself to a coffee and scoop up as many creams, sugars, sweeteners as you can.
NO, I couldn't even last a week. I'm spoiled rotten for sure.

...pay for made bread, make your own bread .... yeast ,water, and wheat flour makes a basic bread. if you feel rich use some condiments, first one that comes to mind is salt:)

Twenty bucks a month would be impossible in the Big City, but you might make it twice that, if you buy rice/beans/pasta/potatoes in bulk, cook whole chicken (broth plus six meals of meat) and buy the "sale" meat: yeah, it's gray on top but cook it immediately in a stew, and who'll know?

Veg/fruit coops are good, too.
