A great way to get started on eBay is by selling extra things you have around the house, whether it be a collection of old records, some Beanie Babies that were all the rage a few years ago, or that old computer you replaced last summer. When you’re new to eBay, the results will probably be a tad bit disappointing at first, especially when you are a newbie to the auction system and you don’t have a lot of feedback to back up your reputation.

After a while, you will get the basics down, and get a bit of feedback to back you up, you will notice that people will actually begin to bid on your auctions more and more. You’ll probably be able to sell things that you had never even thought would generate auction traffic. There are so many people looking for so many different things, almost anything will go for the right price!

You will make a little bit of money on eBay when you start out, but be sure to watch out for the fees. You have to pay a fee to list the item, to accept payment through PayPal, and pay for postage, amongst other fees you get to pay. If you are going to take a loss after all the fees are said and done, don’t even bother auctioning the item.

In order to begin your eBay venture, you first have to determine what audience you are aiming at. Are you looking for golf enthusiasts, runners, computer geeks, moms who love decorating, or another group? Once you have found your niche, you should make sure the competition is not too staggering. There are probably a lot of people already selling the item that you want to at competitive prices, so you are going to have to find a way to stand out in the crowd!

Make the title appealing, to people, something that would catch someone’s eye. Instead of using something like “Used Golf Clubs,” pick something like “Gently Used Designer Golf Clubs – CHEAP LOOK!” It make look a bit ridiculous, but it will draw more attention to your item.

Be sure to write a good description, don’t just speak in gibberish. Try to learn the language of the customer and understand what they want to hear. Don’t add ridiculous amounts of postage to your items as some eBay sellers do, this will only turn off bidders. Give a modest and reasonable postage price. Buy it now is another great feature which will help you get a better price of the item, but you will also pay an extra fee for the privilege.

EBay can be a very lucrative system for you to make some extra money on, it might not be for everyone, but it can certainly make you a bit of money if you work at it.
