My experience has also been that short sales often do not work out as the mortgage companies are either not willing to work with borrowers or they are not organized enough to negotiate. A good consumer bankruptcy attorney can save your home in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy where you can catch up over three to five years. Also with HR 200 in Congress, a bill that will probably pass, will allow us to modify home mortgages on the debtors' primary residences something which current law does not allow. The bill will allow up to 40 years to pay, a reduction in interest rate to a reasonable rate perhaps currently about 4% depending on rates. Call your members of Congress and ask that they support HR 200 to allow us consumer bankruptcy attorneys to save even more homes.

I short sold my home earlier this year. It's definitly not an easy process by any means. Even once I had a offer on the house, it still took nearly 3 months to finally close the deal. I was lucky and had a real estate agent with alot of short sale experience so that helped a ton.

I think doing the short sale was a good move though, but I started the process early and had good support
