I must thank God that Mr. Paulson and Mr. Hutchins are not in control of whether or not Chapter 7 exists. I was an honest working 18 year old with no degree. I worked my way over six months into a sales career that paid me 50,000 a year. I lost my job to downsizing and at age 19 without a degree. The debts that I had accumulated were all reasonable and responsible. After losing my job I became very ill and ended up in bed for three months. My bills piled. A fun collection agent from some agency in Texas even threatened to go after my family. I got well and immediatly sought work. I faced a brick wall. I was not going to be able to find another job paying as well with out a degree. I could not go back to school buried in the debt i was in.
I filed bankruptcy after fighting for three years to get back on track. I filed so I could go to college. I am now entering my Junior year as a non traditional 25 yr old student. I have maintained a 4.0 for two years, and am nearly done getting on with life. So before you go on calling "Chapter 7'ers" liars, and that it is viewed as a "get out of jail free card," think about my story.
If that isn't enough for you, a high school friend of mine had his father die when he was about two years out of H.S. His father left him $150,000 worth of medical bills. Should he have filed bankruptcy? Well he did and good for him. Should he start life out with $150,000 worth of debt? Um no. And If you guys actually think that him or I was not justified in what we had to do. I ask you where your humanity is?

I agree entirely...after spending time with a Bankrutcy tTustee listening to many debtors who have filed 2 and 3 times while waiting to hear whether my loan to a total manipulator of the system would be disharged I have to tell you that the way the courts process these filings is a total joke...sadly it is the honest hard working folk that pay for these people who lie and steal using the system that we are all paying for.
Obvious lies are let go just to get the case closed so the Trustee can move on. Perjury does not exist...the Trustee's allow the filers to refile and restate over and over with no accountability at all....very sad
