Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to do something a little different with your special someone.  Regardless of your budget, you can find some unique ways to spend Valentine’s Day with your partner, whether you’ve been married for ten years or you’ve just begun dating.  Here are some great ideas for Valentine’s Day dates you may not have come up with:

Visit the Planetarium.  There is probably one within driving distance of wherever you are located, and most people rarely go.  Since in many parts of the country, February is still pretty cold to be spending lots of time outdoors, you can take your star-gazing indoors to the planetarium.  Don’t have a planetarium nearby?  You can buy a home planetarium kit for around $30, turn any room of your home into the night sky, and sit underneath on a blanket with a picnic basket.

Video Game Competitions.  Most people don’t do this on a regular basis, which would make it extremely entertaining and different for a Valentine’s Day date!  Go to the arcade and challenge each other on various video games.  Alternatively, if either of you has your own video game collection, stay at home and compete!  Rent a few new games from your local video game store and enjoy a few hours of laughing.

Spa Day.  There are a couple ways to have a “spa day”, and you can select the one that works best for your budget.  If you have some extra money to indulge you and your Valentine with on this special day, you could make an appointment at a local spa and get couple’s massages, or seaweed wraps or anything else that sounds enjoyable to the two of you.  If this is outside your budget for a Valentine’s Day date, then you can set up a spa at home!  Homedics makes a paraffin wax kit for under $40; there are bath mats that are placed in the water of your regular tub and creates bubbles similar to a jacuzzi for a few dollars.  You can make do-it-yourself detoxifying masks and give each other massages to complete your spa day.

Do the unexpected.  If you’ve always talked about going hang gliding, scuba diving, or bungee jumping- why not make Valentine’s Day your day to do the unthinkable?

Hopefully this has given you some unexpected and unique ideas for things to do for Valentine’s Day dates.  I left out the common ones, like making or going to dinner or the movies, because I’m pretty sure everyone has already thought of those!
