Test Your Vocabulary and End World Hunger

free riceThere’s no mistaking the correlation between individuals with a strong reading ability and vocabulary with individuals who become successful in life.   Strong vocabulary skills help you develop and express your ideas better, write and communicate so more people understand you, have better reading comprehension and the ability to read things faster because you understand what you’re reading, and can even help you sell your services or products better.

There is a website that let’s everyone build their vocabulary and help end world hunger at the same time: http://www.freerice.com.  Each time you get a vocabulary word correct, 20 grains of rice is donated to the United  Nations World Food Program.

This is a great site for high school students who are studying for their SAT’s.  In fact, I think high schools should make it mandatory that the students spend some time studying their vocabulary using this site- not only will they learn new words that will help them get higher scores on the SAT’s, but they’ll be donating rice to people who need it.

Each time you answer a vocabulary word correctly, you’re presented with a more difficult word.  If you get a word wrong, you don’t lose any of the rice you’ve donated, but you won’t add to your bowl either!

This site is entirely sponsored by donations and companies who advertise on the site, below the vocabulary game window.  Not only are they supporting donations to end world hunger, but these companies recognize the value in building a stronger vocabulary.
