You Can Get The Rewards From Those Timeshare Companies
February 16, 2008 By Debbie Dragon
Yesterday, I attended a presentation on timeshares. Have you seen these? You’re asked to come and sit through a 90 minute presentation about timeshares, and in exchange for your time, you’ll be given a variety of free gifts and you’re under no obligation to buy anything.
Of course, I thought this was a total scam. I had read a ton of information about various timeshare companies, written by people who had gone and then didn’t get the gifts they were promised or were under extreme pressure for the sales people.
I literally went to this presentation completely prepared to argue with the company to get my free gifts. In the mail, we were sent a letter than told us what free gifts we would receive, regardless of whether we decided to buy the timeshare offered or not, and they included:
- A 2 day/2 Night trip to Las Vegas, Airfare included
- a $40 Visa prepaid gift card
- $40 in free gas
- One of the following awards- which we would find out when we got there which one it was: $49,000 vehicle OR $40,000 in cash; a $1500 gift card to walmart or various other retailers; $500 in cash; or a 5 day/4night trip to a tropical destination (no airfare included)
I assumed we’d get none of the gifts, and there would be a whole list of reasons why we didn’t qualify, even though the paperwork plainly said we’d get them. I made copies of the paperwork for myself, because I hoped I could later use it to fight for the free stuff I was promised!
Apparently, there are legit timeshare companies out there. When the presentation was over, my husband and I explained it was all very interesting but we certainly could not afford it at this time. The sales person sent a new sales person over to give us a better offer; which we also declined. They were persistent, but certainly not pushy and they weren’t making us feel uncomfortable the way some sales people do!
When all was said and done, we walked out of there with:
- $40 prepaid Visa card
- Voucher to get our $40 in free gas coupons
- Trip to Las Vegas, 2 days/2 nights with airfare included
- Trip to tropical destination 5 days/4 nights, no airfare
In other words- we got exactly what they said we would.
If you are ever asked to listen to a timeshare presentation, and you are sent paperwork that describes your free gifts- you might want to go just for that! I can’t promise all companies are legit, but it seems they’re not all as bad as people say!
