You’ve heard of Fantasy Football leagues, where participants create their own football teams by selecting players from the real-world NFL roster.  People join leagues and compete against one another; earning points based on how their selected players perform in the real games.

Now, you can join a Fantasy Stock Market, and practice buying and trading stocks on fantasystockmarket.com.  You have the option of playing individually and competing against other members who have created accounts on the website; or if your class participates you can join as a team and compete against other classrooms and teams.

You can participate for seven days for free; after that you pay $19.95 per year to continue playing and educating yourself on the stock market.  When you open your Fantasy Stock Market account you’ll be given $100,000 (play money!) to begin trading.  You can research the stock market through the website, and make decisions about which accounts to invest in or get rid of.  Not only will the stocks be updated while the real market is open; but your ranking will be displayed to you so you can see whether you are making good decisions or not.

Your Fantasy Stock Market account allows you to trade stocks from almost all of the major U.S exchanges.  At this time, the game does not allow short selling, options trading or bond trading.  The orders are limited to stocks priced at $5 or greater.  As you make trades, your portfolio will be tracked within the game, as well as your standings when compared to the other Fantasy players.

The game is a monthly game; which means that at the start of each month, all active players are given another $100,000 to see how much they can earn with it.  There is no wrong way to play this game, really- it’s designed to teach you about the stock market in an entertaining way.
