College Grad Gifts Need Practicality Too
Leaving college dorms for the real world is exciting for recent grads, whether they are moving on to a new job or moving
back in with mom and dad. College graduates have a renewed need for practical gifts because of the high cost of living and the higher cost of college loans.
Here are some practical ideas for the college grad in your life.
Gift Cards and Theme Baskets – Refer back to a previous posts about ideas for high school grads but relate the gifts to the new life of a college grad who will need to decorate their first apartment, who will be starting their new career, and those who may be looking for a little vacation after so many years of studies.
New Job Essentials – Keep in mind the things a new executive, or gopher, may need on the job, such as a briefcase, desk supplies, massage gift certificates, and other items that would help give them a good head start.
Groceries – Graduates who will not be returning home to their parents who appreciate a move up from ramen noodles and PBJ sandwiches. A gift card to a local market or a them basket full of snacks, gum, and other non-perishables make a great gift for anyone.
Entertainment – College grads choosing to relax over the summer before getting a job would enjoy such treats as concert tickets, admission to an amusement park, or a weekend away for some adventure and fun.
Responsibility Essentials – Many graduates may still be unprepared for the real world. Giving gifts to help with newfound responsibilities, such as financial and budgeting software, seminar admissions for managing money, career counseling services can help young adults learn about important matters that will carrying them throughout life.
Cash – Obviously a very welcome gift for any graduate, cash in a card can be a good gift, especially if you are not very close to the individual. Cash can be used for downpayment on an apartment, a student loan payment, or to put in a savings account.
Whatever gift route you choose, keep both the student and your own budget in mind.
