Great Cable TV Alternatives
It seems that the cost of Cable TV rises consistently above the rate of inflation. You’d think that the price of cable television would go down overtime because of increased competition in the marketplace, but that just hasn’t happened. Cable TV keeps getting more expensive, and many consumers are becoming increasingly unhappy with their service. If you’re tired of paying too much for cable TV, consider one of these great alternatives to writing checks to the cable company each month.
Podcasts & Video Podcasts – There’s an amazing number of high-quality shows that other people produce and put out for free. No, they don’t have ridiculously huge budgets to produce their content, but there’s some reality quality stuff out there. There are podcasts and video podcasts on just about everything, and a lot of the content is just as entertaining was watching primetime television.
The iTunes Store – If you just watch a few television shows that you can’t get over the air, consider subscribing to your favorite television shows on iTunes. It’ll be about $1.99 an episode, of $8.00 a month for every weekly show that you watch. If you only watch a couple of shows that are on cable, and the rest is on broadcast, you can save a ton of money. You’ll be able to take these shows with you on a video iPod, or watch them in your living room with one of those new Apple TV’s.
Check for Cable Deals – If you have more than one cable provider in your area, check for deals. Comcast cable has consistently offered lower prices than their competitors, so if you’re looking to keep your cable, but just want a lower price, checkout the latest comcast cable deals and comcast cable offers.
Watch Shows Free Online – The big three networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS are now allowing you to watch all of their primetime content through their website. You can watch all of your favorite shows whenever you want, without having to pay for a VCR or a Tivo service. If you don’t have over the air access to the big three networks, this is the way to go.
Joost – Joost is a new service that will allow you to watch television stations on your computer without having to pay for cable. They have a few stations right now, but recently made a deal with Viacom and soon you’ll be able to a watch number of additional networks on your computer for free.
Over the Air – Many television networks are now broadcasting their content over the air in high-definition. If all you care about are the major networks and don’t mind having a nice big antenna on your home, why not stick with watching television over the air? After all, the price is right!
Satellite – If you have not had very good service from your local cable provider and still want to get a lot of the cable channels, consider one of the satellite providers such as Dish. Depending on what type of satellite service and which company you sign up with, there’s a pretty good chance you can get a lot of the cable stations you enjoy for less money.
Don’t get stuck in the paradigm that you have to have cable TV. If you don’t make good use of it, just don’t buy it. If you’re sick of the service you’re getting from your existing provider, consider moving to one of the many great alternatives to cable television.
