If I may... as a photographer, I have to take issue with the assumption that you are paying too much. My equipment cost maybe $50,000.My training, at least the same. To shoot a school, I spend a day preparing, hours driving and setting up, and many days doing post work. In the end, taking all those costs and the assistant, and so on I end up earning very little. As you say, the pictures you saw were great - why argue with the cost? They were great for a reason.

I'm not going to completely bash every Walmart that I have ever had pictures made at (cause there have been some great ones), but my last 3 experiences with them drove me to at least try another company.

I heard some rave reviews about Portrait Innovations, so I checked them out. There were A LOT of bad reviews online, so I was very hesistant. But there were still some good ones, so we finally made the appointment. There was my family - DH, myself, and my 4 & 2 year old boys, as well as my parents.

They took around 120 pictures! We went through them and took out the ones we didn't love, and then we ended up with a great package. Yea we could have done the one pose for like $10, but we wanted a lot of different pictures, and we knew that we were going to spend more than that. We ended up with several poses, several sizes, some special effects, and we spent $175. These are pictures that are priceless to us because my parents were with us. If it were just regular family photos, I would not have spent that much money on the photos. But it was a special moment, and I must say, they did a great job!

Check their website to see if they have one near you. We are in Austin Texas, and went to the one that is near Lakeline Mall off of Research Blvd.
