BlackBerry Releases iPhone Competitor: BlackBerry Storm
Gadget enthusiasts have a new item to add to their Christmas list this year, BlackBerry’s long awaited competitor to Apples’ iPhone, the Blackberry Storm is arriving. The Blackberry Storm has a touch interface similar to that of the Apple iPhone as well as a number of Media abilities that are very impressive. The phone supports a number of audio and video formats, including MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WMA ProPlus, MPEG4 H.263, MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile, H.264, and WMV.
The phone has some pretty impressive technical specifications as well. It sports a 480×360 pixel display, a TFT LCD screen, 6 hours of battery life, the ability to use it as a tethered modem, a light sensing screen, a built-in speaker phone, Bluetooth, and an on-screen keyboard. The phone allows users to use email wirelessly like other blackberries. It also has a personal organizer, a web browser, a 3.2 megapixel digital camera, a GPS device, and MMS/SMS messaging.
Chances are you’ll have the opportunity to read gadget and technology news about this new site from all over the place. All of the major gadget websites, such as Gizmodo, Engaget, and even David Pogue of the New York Times and Walt Mosberg of the Wallstreet journal have weighed in on phone. Overall the reviews have been fairly positive for the most part, with the major exception of David Pogue’s strikingly negative review. We can learn that when reading consumer guide articles, we need to be discerning and read more than one, because sometimes somebody just has a bone to pick.
This isn’t to say that the BlackBerry storm isn’t without problems. Many people have been having issues with the phone locking up and have had some complaints about the quality of the software included on it. The phone definitely doesn’t take the iPhone’s mantle of being the best phone on the market, but it is a step in the right direction for RIM to make.
