Hi Any One,
I know too well what you are going through. My father is 85 and has dementia. Before I realized what he was doing, he had given away $2200.00 in two months! All in $10 and $20 increments!! I discovered that the mailbox is completely filled every day with junk mail. And unfortunately, the mail is the highlight of his day. I tried changing his address to mine, but had to change it back because he got so upset when the mailman would not stop at his house anymore. Now I have to go to his mailbox every morning, before the mailman comes. I take out all the mail he has placed in there. I take it home and remove all the checks and then seal up the envelopes and mail them on. But . . . not before I write on the correspondance "NOTE NEW ADDRESS" and then I write my address in there. Slowly but surely the majority of his junk mail is now coming to me. It is not fun, but at least alot of his junk mail is now ending up where it belongs - in the garbage!

Help Help! I need advice - I have a 83 year mother who I have done everything possible to protect her but she is still not listen to me and continues to send money to scam sweepstakes. Steps I have taken: 1. I closed her checking account and open a joint account with me. Intentionally did not order checks.. (so she started sending cash). I changed her address to a PO Box but unfortunately the US Post continues to deliver the junk mail. I recently discovered that she had order checks and got a few counter checks and immediately had them in the mail along with cash and her debit card information on one. I had an major intervention...took mail box... went to bank and cancelled checks and visited the post office to beg them to stop delivering the mail. She went out purchased a new box. I am wits end. I am so frustrated. Isn't there any help or recourse against these scammers. The post office box I have for her (she doesn't have the key) had over 30 pieces of sweepstake type mail.

Great advice! Educating our seniors will be key in this effort. I recently have done several speaking engagements to try and spread awareness. There is new legislation that is being discussed that I describe in the link below which could help. http://www.finsymnews.com/avoiding-elderly-fraud/
