Well Said Debbie,

Consumers should also work with a company that charges a performance based fee as opposed to a fee based on the total debt. If a company charges a fee based on what they are saving a consumer and taking a majority of that fee after the work is done, that gives the consumer much more protection and further insures that the company is incentivized to do a good job for their client.

There are a few good debt settlement companies out there and you have to do a lot of research to find them, nevertheless you still have to pay them 15% of your total debt, which can greatly increse your liability.

You can settle your own debt by using reputable do it yourself debt settlement training and coaching for a small fraction of what a debt settlement company charges.
