CBS (NYSE: CBS) Cancels 7 Shows

In a somewhat shocking statement , CBS (NYSE: CBS) has announced the cancellation of 7 shows. Among those canceled are; “The New Adventures of Old Christine”, “The Ghost Whisperer”, “Gary Unmarried”, and “Accidentally on Purpose”. This announcement may sadden but also shock some regular viewers, mostly as most of these shows showed promise. But the other shocking thing about this announcement was finding out what they are going to be replacing these shows with, for instance, “Hawaii-Five-O” for “Ghost Whisperer”?

“Ghost Whisperer” has also consistently won at its time slot, Fridays at 8pm. It had “won” the time slot for 6 years. The shows CBS did renew are; “Two and a Half men”, “Rules of Engagement” and “The Medium”.

Many fans of these shows have banded together on various social networking websites, such as Facebook, to try to convince other networks to pick up these shows. Shows like “Ghost Whisperer”, and “New Christine” both already have some speculation at being picked up. It shows the fans are willing to fight for their favorite shows. In defense of the shows, a change in time resulted in fewer viewings. For example, “Accidentally on Purpose” was performing well on a Monday comedy block, but then got moved to Wednesdays, and began slipping. “Gary Unmarried” shows a consistent following, just not a growing one.

Some of the new shows that got picked up other then “Hawaii-five-o”; “Blue Blood”, a cop drama, a Twitter-born comedy “Sh– my dad says”, and a soon to be titled spin off of “Criminal Minds” Staring Forrest Whitaker.

With luck a lot of your favorite shows will be picked up by other networks, and they will live on. ABC has already announced some interest in a few of the shows, but especially “New Christine”.
