Cable Line Up Changes in Store for NY Time Warner Cable Customers
Time Warner Cable is once again changing their lineup for customers across the state of NY. The changes are being made as the company looks to the future and its plans to offer more enhanced services. While many customers will not be affected by the change, those without digital ready sets and digital cable boxes will be affected.
Time Warner will be moving four of its standard channels to digital. While they will still be available with the standard package, customers will need a digital TV top cable box in order to view them. Moving channels include The Travel Channel, Shop NBC, Tru TV and Discovery Health.
“Service and package levels have not changed,” said Lara Pritchard, regional communications manager for Time Warner Western New York. “For customers with a digital box connected to their TV, this will be a seamless transition.”
The channel move is expected to take place the first week of August, and customers should have already received a letter outlining the changes. Time Warner Cable, in an effort to make the transition easy on its customers, is offering a promotion for customers who would like to continue to view these channels. Customers between now and August 31st of next year (2011), can receive from Time Warner a digital cable box with remote control free of charge. Each customer can receive one free box and remote. The only downside is that after August 31, 2011 regular monthly rental rates on the box and remote will apply.
Customers who upgrade to a digital cable box will be able to enjoy other features as well. These include an interactive program guide, access to on demand free and pay channels and several free music channels that offer music programming without commercial interruption.
“We have extended the free set-top box offer to help those customers who do not have the necessary equipment to continue to enjoy these channels and hopefully entertain some additional benefit of the digital viewing experience,” Pritchard said.
Time Warner says that these changes are necessary as they get ready to add more HD channels, as they make changes to enhance their on demand options and as they add more features to their DVR’s.
“All technology is moving to digital, which provides better quality pictures and sound, and allows us to expand the use of our network bandwith to provide more channels and services to our customers,” Pritchard said.
