Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) Offering Common Cents at Walmart (NYSE: WMT)
Common Cents is now on sale in aisle 5. Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE: S) will be selling its Common Cents Mobile phones in more than 1,200 Walmart (NYSE: WMT) stores around the country. Customers can now get a quality pay-as-you-go plan for cellular service without signing a long-term contract.
The Common Cents Mobile brand is a pay-as-you-go plan that is geared towards customers looking for low-cost wireless service without the bells and whistles. Customers using the Common Cents plan will pay 7 cents a minute for regular phone calls and 7 cents for each text. The service is prepaid and the service will round user minutes down to the nearest minute. Callers essentially will get more call and text time for their money. There is currently a limited time offer of 200 bonus minutes for voice calls for first-time customers that initially replenish their phone accounts.
Sprint is aiming to expand the market for customers who are not interested in committing to two-year contracts for wireless phone services. The Common Cents plan is one of four brands Sprint has been working on. Other Sprint brands include Virgin Mobile USA which caters to younger users who use their mobile phones to send texts and surf the Web. Boost Mobile also offers unlimited options for talk and texting and cater to users who use their phones a lot but need a cheaper service plan. The third Sprint brand is Assurance Wireless which is a specialized brand, proving free cell phones and 200 free minutes for individuals who rely on government assistance programs and low-income customers who need affordable phone service.
The competition for mobile service is tough and customers are often paying the price through rising costs. Sprint is hoping to capture the market of customers tired of the high costs of cellular and wireless services with their four new brands which offer low-cost services without the commitment of a contract.
