MozyHome Review: What You Need to Know About MozyHome
If you haven’t setup an online backup service such as Carbonite or Mozy for your computers, you’re placing yourself at a risk to user all sorts of music, photos and documents. There are a number of online backup solutions available, but today we’re reviewing Mozy. Here’s our MozyHome Review.
There are a lot of different ways to back-up your data. A common technique that many people rely on is backing up their data to an external storage device, such as an external hard-drive, a USB flash drive or burning their content to CDs. However, if all of your data is in one place, you are still at risk from a fire or any natural disaster that might destroy your home. Quite often, these type of manual back-up solutions don’t work because people don’t ever actually get around to backing up their data. As a result, a new wave of cloud-based services have come out, such as MozyHome and Carbonite, which automate the process for you and export your data to a remote server for back-up.
MozyHome is one of the best online back-up solutions available. You install a program on your computer that runs in the background and automatically backs up your documents, music, videos and photos automatically. You can also set the service to run overnight when you’re not on your computer for maximum performance.
If your computer ever dies or has an issue where you need to restore your back-up, simply install the MozyHome client on another computer and run the restore function. You also have the option to download your backed-up files from the web or have Mozy send you a DVD with your data on it.
There are two account options for MozyHome users. You can start out with a free package which provides you with 2 GB of backup. If you decide you need more storage, MozyHome offers an unlimited option for just $4.95 per month, which will back-up as much data as you need to their servers.
MozyHome supports Windows 7, 2000, XP, and Vista (32 & 64 bit), as well as Mac OS X 10.6, 10.5, & 10.4. Your data transfer is also encrypted locally with military-grade encryption prior to transfer via a 128-bit SSL connection. For additional security, users can choose a managed encryption key or choose a personal key. Your data is stored SAS70 or ISO certified data centers and Mozy provides real-time support to all of its customers.
