Competition in the set-top box market is heating up this holiday season with the launch of Google TV, the Boxee Box and the new Apple TV. Roku has already been through a few iterations of devices and now hopes to position itself as providing the best value among set-top box players.

Beet.TV recently interviewed Roku Corporate Communications Director Brian Jacquet about Roku’s strategy to win the battle for the connected living room. Jacquet told Beet.TV that Roku, priced between $59 and $99, aims to provide the best value among set-top boxes. Jacuqet says that the Roku is “well positioned” with its current feature-set and price point.

There are currently three models of Roku boxes available, the low-priced $59.99 Roku HD, the $79.99 Roku XD player and the $99.99 Roku XDS. All models support HD video, an Ethernet port and built-in Wi-Fi. The XD and XDS model also support 1080p video and 802.11N Wi-Fi. The Roku XDS Player also adds dual-band wireless support and includes a USB port for side-loading video.

During the last year, Roku has really added value to its device by adding a number of new types of content and services, such as Hulu Plus. Because Roku is a streaming only player, new channels and content are available via free software updates.
