Nintendo has officially announced the release day of its new handheld Nintendo 3DS gaming system. The device will go on sale March 27th for a price of $249.99. The gadget will allow players to experience games in 3D without the need for special eyewear to view the screen graphics.

Nintendo also said along with the launch of the device, more than 30 games compatible with the new 3DS will also be available at the time of launch up through early June. To date, older versions of the handheld gaming machines – the Nintendo DS and the DSI have been very successful. The company claims that the user experience for the new 3DS is ‘like nothing you’ve ever seen before.’

The new Nintendo will feature two screens similar to the older model machines. The bottom screen will remain a touch screen and the top level screen will display both 2D and 3D graphics. The device will feature a depth slider which allows users to control the levels of 3D graphics they are able to see. There are three built-in cameras too. One points at the player and the two additional cameras face outward, allowing the user to experience 3D images of themselves and the objects they photograph.

A motion sensor and gyro sensor is incorporated into the device which enables the machine to sense tilting and other motions of the user. The controls will also feature a new Circle Pad in addition to the original button controls and arrow control pads that allow users to have 360 degree access to directions during game play. The 3DS will also feature applications preloaded into the device. One application acts as a pedometer and users can earn coin rewards for the amount of steps they take. Coins can be saved and traded in for additional applications and gaming content. Another application, the Mii Maker application, lets players import their Wii avatar Mii into their 3DS system.

The Kinect, for Xbox 360, is an outstanding success for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MFST). Xbox 360 is a home entertainment and video system. It provides an enormous range of video games as well as a huge on demand library of music and movies. The movies are standard and high definition versions. The box also shows TV shows and digital games. There are 25 million Xbox LIVE members.

Around 2.5 million copies of Kinect were sold in the first ten days after its release in November 2010. Its great appeal is it does not need a controller. It is the only controller-free games and entertainment system available. The user controls, games, music and television with their gestures and voice.

“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday.”

Target, says that Xbox 360 is one of their bestsellers. Nik Naya, vice president, merchandising at Target says, “We expect Kinect will be a must-have gift this holiday season, so Target will continue to receive consistent shipments of Kinect throughout December. The hands-free, active gaming experience that Kinect offers is something that everyone in the family can enjoy.”

There are over 60 000 retailers in 38 countries selling Kinect and Xbox 360.

Kinect is an add-on to the Xbox 360. Without Kinect, a user can still play games on Xbox 360. This means users do not need to buy a new console when updating to Kinect. The audio and imaging A1 of the Kinect recognises faces and recognises a player from others around him or her. Kinect also has speech recognition and can track up to 6 players at a time.

The general manager of Xbox Live, Mark Whitten, said in an interview. “How people are going to consume entertainment is changing in this amazing time we are in. When you look at Xbox 360 and what we have with Live, and the power to bring in Kinect, which gives you this natural user interface to drive on top of that, that’s what’s going to be really special–whether that’s about all the games you can play or the new user entertainment experiences. It’s really about how you get people to expect more out of their living room.”

The new hands-free motion controlled Kinect sensor bar from Microsoft (NASDAQ:APPL) for the Xbox 360 is set to make its appearance in November and gamers are all ready to jump in the new technology. But those who are gaming on a budget might need to start saving up some cash before then.

The Microsoft online store is already taking pre-orders for the Kinect Sensor bar at a retail price of $149. The bar plugs directly into the Xbox 360 console and allows players to control the movement of the games using only their body. The Kinect Sensor features a camera and motion technology that tracks 48 points of a human body’s movement. The sensor also allows game action to be controlled through verbal commands that are tracked by audio sensors.

Gamers who are purchasing a Kinect-ready Xbox 360 along with compatible games can expect to pay upwards of $500 just to go hand-free. There are several compatible games due out in the coming months. Microsoft, along with its partners, will begin shipping a variety of activity games during the November release time.

In 2011, several Disney titles are expected to hit the market. A Star Wars game from LucasArts is also expected to arrive next year. Ubisoft is releasing Your Shape: Fitness Evolved that provides users with an on-screen trainer to help you navigate through exercise routines. Kinect Joy Ride by Big Park is being billed as ‘the world’s first hands-free racing game. MTV games will release Dance Central where users can dance to popular artists like Lady Gaga and No Doubt.

Serious gamers will be ready to take on the new hand-free gaming challenge. It won’t come without a price tag but it should come just in time for the holiday shopping season.

DVDs and video games can be very expensive, especially if you enjoy them on a daily basis. Chains, like Blockbuster, have been renting both of them for years, but the price has shot up recently. Why is this? It’s most likely caused by the fact that focus has shifted from renting in-store to renting online. Companies like Netflix have grown in popularity rapidly over the past couple of years.

When someone signs up for Netflix, they can choose to receive one DVD at a time, or up to four. They pay monthly for an account, and then sign on and look through the list of thousands of DVDs that they have available. You choose 1-4, and then they are shipped straight to your door. Is this worth it? Well, it depends on your lifestyle. If you only occasionally watch movies at home, the monthly cost may be more than you need to be paying. But if you watch at least 3 movies a week, chances are you’ll be saving a lot of money in a very short period of time.

Blockbuster continues to raise the prices of renting their DVDs in store, but they have also developed a system similar to Netflix. The only difference is that when you finish the DVDs that were shipped to you, you can bring them to blockbuster and trade them in. This makes the price of Blockbuster’s program more expensive than Netflix, but if you want the convenience of in-store trade in, Blockbuster may be the best bet for you.

Another company that has become popular lately is Gamefly. Gamefly works the same way that Netflix does, except they send video games instead of DVDs. Video games can run upwards of $60, depending on the game system. Instead of buying all of your games, it may be more cost effective to rent them, especially if you have the tendency to beat games in a short period of time. If you have children that play video games on a regular basis, you should look into Gamefly. It may save you a lot of money on games… especially since kids tend to have a short attention span. Instead of wasting your money on a game they’ll get bored of, you can send it back when they’re done and just get a new one!

If you rent a lot of movies or games, look into these companies. Having your entertainment delivered directly to your door is convenient, and can save you a lot of money.

Some consumers could never dream of buying used…that is until the economy took a turn for the worst and gas suddenly began to cost more than many families could afford. There is a growing interest in budgeting and saving money – just take a look around the internet to find the truth in that. While there are many different examples of how to save money, buying used items still, for many, has a negative connotation.

Here are some great examples of things to buy used to still get quality stuff, without the ridiculously high prices:

CDs/DVDs – With the opportunities growing for using new mediums for music and video such as through the online market, there is little need to purchase new discs for audio and video. There is often a plethora of discs that can be found at yard sales and eBay for very reasonable prices. Instead of buying discs, rent them for free from the library.

Video Games – Much like the CD/DVD options, some libraries often rent the games for free or at a low cost. If you can find a local library where you can get your games, shop at a used game store where you can often trade in used games for different used games for no or low cost.

Books – Again, the library is a great way to save yourself $30 per book. Even small town libraries, like the one I frequent, carry the newest releases; though you may be on a waiting list for the newly released copies. Yard sales and the internet are also a great place to find gently read books for a dramatic savings.

Infant/Toddler Jeans – Little bitty kids who can barely walk or can’t walk at all are often pretty kind to a pair of pants or jeans, unlike older, more active kids who tend to wear out the knees or find different kind of stains to acquire. Shop at thrift stores or yard sales that have baby clothing. Most little kids grow out of great clothes before they have a chance to mess them up. Paying $15 for a pair of jean a little one may wear once is ridiculous, especially if you don’t even pay that much for your own adult-sized jeans.

Family Pets – “Previously Owned” may be a better way to describe this category. Many animal breeders charge top dollar for a dog or even a cat. Instead of going for the top of the line, go straight to the heart and adopt a cat or dog from an overcrowded shelter. The adoption fee is generally under $100 and includes neutering and spaying procedures, shots, and the money you spend goes right back into the local animal shelter.
